It is true that we do change. I am living proof of changing my habit of being late to actually planning and taking action that is ahead of schedule. I am somehow shocked at my own action lately, but if I want to be an excellent leader then I better walk my talk. When I was younger my Mom would always tell me, "You and Those Damn 10 minutes". I was literally always 10 minutes late for everything. Then I had a teacher who said these words..."to be early is to be on time and to be on time is to be late".
These words stuck with me for years, nearly 30 years, to be more precise (and so did the words Mom told me, lol), Mom only pointed out the facts, which were that
a) I was always late,
b) it was always 10 minutes, and
c) I fulfilled what I heard, observed, believed about myself in that I was always late.
I do not know why this became my thing or when it started. It was likely that it was me sleeping until the last possible minute, taking way longer to do my hair, because it had to be perfect, and having way too much to do in the mornings than I planned for. I had animals to tend to, sleep to be had, and then look and smell good enough to go school. Phew, no wonder this became my m.o.
Even after I heard the words, took time management courses, and did try my best to be "on time" it never failed that something would arise.
So my habits did not change right away, but my thoughts started to change. I tweaked my system, I kept at it, I taught others about this topic, and my subconscious finally bought into the idea. Within the past couple of years, I have been much more consistent with being places "on time" rather than late. Sometimes it's hours "on time", but I am there and always prepare to do something productive while waiting. It is has been significantly evident and much more consistent this past year. I have tweaked my system for many years to get to this point. Can you imagine planting a garden and it not making real produce for 3 Decades? Wouldn't you have given up on that garden?
Here's what I want you to know...planting the seeds does not give you the produce nor does it change the habit. You must nurture the ideas, fertilize them with consistent beliefs and new ways that serve as supplements until the fruit is ready to harvest. Eventually, you become the person who you want to be. The important people in my life are not waiting for me, but I am ready and waiting for them.

Recently, on a group coaching call with my business coach and peers, our coach asked us this question, "which train do you choose to take?". The negative energy train that's carrying all of the things that you are worried about, the things that haven't happened yet, stress, or the train of positive energy. The positive energy train is the one carrying your brilliance, your successes, your confidence, your power.
You see, most of us, by nature automatically hop aboard the negative energy train. I, for one, will openly admit to the awareness that I was replaying the record of "need" instead of all that I did achieve. That included, but not limited to, exceeding a targeted goal that I set to have happen by December 31, 2018. I mean seriously, the realization of how powerful the negative thoughts are really had me thinking which train I was allowing myself to ride on. The negative energy will just take me back the same way that I came in on or the positive energy train to a new destination? One that I've never been before, but deliberately created. When I visualized these trains, it brought to one of my old familiar songs that I enjoyed as a teen which was Downtown Train by Rod Stewart.
That association got even more specific to an even better memory, which was the first time that I got to fly. My destination was to Chicago, IL on a trip that I won. It was so much fun! So many great memories on that trip, including getting dressed in my hotel room, listening to music and Downtown Train started playing. Chicago was the most " "downtown" that I had ever experienced at that point and "Downtown Train" will always remind of that time in my life. That and when I read the signs in the airport about the scans not destroying film. All of the pictures that I took then did get destroyed by the scanner at the airport so the memories that I had are all that I have. Let's just say the airlines and cameras have made much progress since then, lol.
So which train do you choose? The positive energy or negative energy train? They are both departing, but it is your choice which one you board on. For your listening pleasure I included Downtown Train in this blog.
