I remember travel always being a part of my desires. It was planted in my heart to do, but not something that we could do when I was growing up. One of the times my sister, Dawn & I, held secret family meetings and had to put ten cents in our jar to save for this trip. We wanted nothing more than to surprise our parents with saving for the trip. Well needless to say we didn't get that far with ten cents for meeting dues between the two of us and we never told our parents that we were trying to do that. Apparently we had the mantra of "desperate times calls for desperate measures".
As we got older our family committed to making travel a part of our legacy and by all means we are fulfilling that as much as possible. Not let me set the record straight, we did have some big family meeting and say from this day forward we will make travel a part of our legacy. It just became understood that we will make it a priority and do it as much together as we can. We do not travel to say we went here or there. We travel for the journey, for the people that we would not meet otherwise, to learn, to see life from another point of view, to be open-minded, to be more educated than any book could give us, to be able to provide unconditional love anywhere at all times.
There is so much love, happiness, and appreciation across the globe and being able to be a contributor of that is one of the reasons that we do travel. Many, many places solely rely on the travel industry as their means of life. I like to think that without travelers, there are no survivors. What if the industry that you are in has no customers because of the beliefs that people have formed around it? Well sometimes that does happen in the spa industry (more often than not). People have formed a view that travel and self-care are luxuries, yet some of the statistics that people cite when they talk about the Great Depression, and Recession periods are the records of sales of alcohol and beauty products never going down.
It is time to open our minds and start understanding that we have put too much focus on the wrong areas of life. Most of us were never taught to invest in ourselves, but give as much as we can. We limit our resources when we limit our experiences.
Here's to traveling the world and enjoying the abundance that God has given us.
